Color Combination

During the beginning of my career as a jewelry maker I found it very hard to experiment with color combination, so I always went for the norm and chose unexciting colors like pink and white. Then as I started learning more about this industry I found out that the selection of color for any jewelry piece is indispensable as it gives originality and makes your piece very marketable. Buyers would pay top dollar for something that is original and beautiful. But for some reason I couldn’t get rid of my “color block”.

One day I was buying flowers for my mom for Mother’s Day and I saw this beautiful bouquet with the most amazing mix of colors and I thought to myself: “I am going to use these colors for a bracelet”. After finding the beads that had similar colors to that bouquet I created the bracelet, and in no time I was receiving orders upon orders for that piece; soon after my “Color Block” was over…

Nowadays technology has made it even easier to get color inspiration:

  • I always have a camera handy to take pictures of things that inspire me throughout the day or I also goggle nature and painting pictures on the web. You can always search for other picture categories.
  • Finally, I go to this fabulous website www.kuler.adobe.com and upload the image. This free service allows me to create combinations from an image as well as to select color extraction moods: Colorful, Bright, Muted, Deep, Dark and Custom by moving the markers
