Bead Stringing

Bead stringing is where all beginners should start. It’s simply inserting beads into a string. Jewelry stringers can create pieces that range from inserting a single bead onto any thread to complex creations that have multiple strands or a 3D appearance. This quick guide will show you what you need know to get started and links to free tutorials.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: I strive to be your jewelry making free resource finder, so before we start getting into the details I want to warn you that you will come across plenty of off-site links, so please be sure to bookmark this page so you can always come back and continue learning.

    1. Basic Tools Needed:

      • Basic Pliers Set: The basic set includes a Chain Nose Pliers, Round nose pliers, Flat Nose Pliers and Cutter Pliers.
      • Flexible wire thread: Used for bead stringing or crystals and all types of stone beads. It is a very strong nylon coated wire cable as it consists of a number of strands of thin steel wire. The best brands are Accu-Flex and Beadalon.
      • Monofilament: Also called as "Jewelry Thread." Used for basic jewelry waving and inexpensive jewelry. This is very similar to fishing line thread, but it has a nylon coating that prevents it from twisting and breaking easily.
      • Beads: Different types, sizes, and finishes of beads.
      • Basic Findings: Findings are components, usually made of metal, used to finish, connect, space, or embellish jewelry. To learn more about the different types of findings, please click here (this link is for subscribers only, but subscription is free).
